Most dogs find homes quickly but those who need a little extra care are always safe with
Dogs Trust because they never destroy a healthy dog.
They believe that, after all they’ve been through, abandoned dogs deserve the best. Their rehoming centres are designed to the highest standards and each dog receives all the love, care and medical treatment they need.
In addition to their rehoming work, Dogs Trust also tackles the root cause of the stray dog problem through their neutering, education and microchipping campaigns.
Sponsor a Dog
Sponsor a Dog is a project run by Dogs Trust and OpinionWorld will sponsor 6 dogs through our Charity Program.
Once again we are helping to raise funds for this wonderful charity and hoping to bring our total raised for this year to £8,500. With our very rewarding friendship and we will keep you updated with news of all the dogs we are sponsoring.
Meet our sponsor dogs!
Hi, it’s Chad here!
I’m really looking forward to Christmas! There’s a great atmosphere at the centre; the staff all wear funny hats and we have Christmas tunes playing throughout the day! I’m not so keen on the winter weather though, so I always have plenty of warm blankets to snuggle in and I’ll watch the Christmas fun from my cosy bed!
The centre has been really busy this year, with lots of filming going on. The Underdog Show was on TV recently and went really well. I didn’t get to star in it, probably because I’m too good looking! But I did get to go on the very first sponsored walk in October, with lots of my four legged friends! We had great fun sniffing out new smells and chasing leaves. It was a rainy day so I got very muddy, but I had a bath when I got home and a new hair cut too! My carers say I look even cuter now they can see my big brown eyes!
Have a very merry Christmas!
Wags and Woofs,
Chad xx
Hi there, it’s Duke,
Merry Christmas!! I’m so excited because this is my first Christmas as the brand new sponsor dog at Salisbury. A little birdie (Mickey Brown – fellow sponsor dog and digging enthusiast!) has told me to expect lots of cards and presents. We’ve already got quite a collection of cards up in our dining area – it makes me feel very special, my tail’s not stopped wagging!
I’ve also put paw to paper and sent my wish list to Santa Paws. At the top of the list is a new sandpit in the Sanctuary, for that little bit extra digging space! Mickey Brown’s asked for the same thing – so both our paws are crossed. I’ve made sure that my carer, Jason, read the letter too just in case. But he and I go way back, so I’m sure he already knew!
Next on the list are some squeaky toys to share with my pals. Hopefully, they’ll be indestructible ones – as they take quite a squeaking when we get going! Add plenty of tasty treats onto that and that’s my idea of a perfect Christmas! In fact, my tails wagging again!
Have a very waggy Christmas!
Paws truly,
Duke xx
Hi, it’s Freddie here,
I’m so excited about Christmas! The centre looks so festive with decorations and fairy lights twinkling in reception. There’s no way that Santa Paws could miss us! I hope he got my letter – then I’ll get plenty of indestructible toys to play with in the New Year!
I’ve been a good boy this year, especially when I went on sniffer dog trials at The Defence Animal Centre in Melton Mowbray. My carer Kat told me I was staying in the place where they make famous pork pies - well, that certainly got me ready to use my nose! I’m back at the centre though now; I just couldn’t quite concentrate – with Christmas approaching thoughts of mince pies, presents and turkey kept wandering through my head!
My favourite thing about Christmas is the annual Boxing Day sponsored walk. Loads of my old doggie chums (and their human pals) come along and help raise lots of money for Dogs Trust. I enjoy it so much I'm usually up front leading the pack and I'm sure this year will be no exception!
Wags and woofs,
Freddie xx
Hi, it’s Mr Magoo,
Wow, it’s almost Christmas! I’m so excited, my tail won’t stop wagging! It wags double-time when I think about all the cards and presents I get given – I feel very special!
I’ve been busy putting paw to paper and writing my wish list. I’d love some Schmackos and maybe a nice new, extra fluffy, duvet for my armchair. Emily, my carer, told me she’d put in a good word for me with Santa Paws as I’ve been such a good boy this year and I’ve only escaped my kennel a pawful of times! I do try to behave, but sometimes it’s just too tempting to go off and explore, especially at Christmas with the smell of festive foods wafting my way!
I won’t spoil my appetite though; I always make sure I have plenty of room for my Christmas dinner of turkey with all the trimmings! After gobbling it all up, my new kennel-mate Max and I will curl up on our armchairs for a dog-nap before a walk on Haughmond Hill. That’s the best way I can think of to spend Christmas!
Paws truly,
Gooey xx
Special greetings, it’s Podge here!
At this time of the year my thoughts turn to food! I can’t help it, I know I’m meant to be on a diet but Christmas is the best time of the year for us foodies. And I think I’m owed a large Jumbone from my carers as I’ve been busy this year helping them to socialise nervous dogs.
I’m currently sharing my kennel with a Collie called Ruby. I’m very easy going so long as she doesn’t chew my toys or sit in my bed.
I also helped my carers by opening the centre’s sponsored walk this autumn. Last year I walked the circuit but this time I didn’t take part because of my arthritis. Luckily one of my friends has given me free sessions at their hydra-therapy pool which is great for my arthritis, and being a Spaniel I love the water.
On Christmas Day if there’s one thing I could ask for it would be to go for a swim and then I’ll open my presents. Being such a popular dog (even if I do say so myself) there’s bound to be heaps to open and paws crossed there’ll be a large Jumbone to chew on - bliss!
I hope you get a special gift this Christmas too!
Big licks,
Podge xx
Hiya, Smudge here!
How are you? I’m busy, busy, busy! I’ve been working hard with my clicker training and I’m so proud because my carers tell me I’m top of the class! Thanks to the new super duper ceiling in the training barn I’ve found my training classes much easier too.
Our outdoor paddocks have also been made more interesting with sandy bits, grassy bits and lots of other interesting bits.
I’m not what you’d call an ‘all weather dog’ though, so for now I’m quite happy to stay in the training barn and play with my new friend, Sasha. She’s a Collie so we play lots of rough and tumble – it’s grrrreat! My carers tease me and tell me its love. We might have a festive nuzzle under the mistletoe this Christmas but nothing beats a cuddle from my carers.
I hope you get lots of love and cuddles this Christmas too. Here’s one from me to you to wish you a very warm Christmas!
Waggingly yours,
Smudge xx
